What is NPS?

Net Promoter Score (NPS) measures customer loyalty on a −100 to +100 scale. It comes from one survey question — “How likely are you to recommend us to a friend or colleague?” answered 0 to 10 — and sorts the answers into promoters, passives, and detractors.

NPS = % Promoters − % Detractors

How to read your result

  • Promoters (9–10) are loyal enthusiasts who drive growth through referrals.
  • Passives (7–8) are satisfied but unenthusiastic and easily won over by competitors.
  • Detractors (0–6) are unhappy customers who can slow growth through negative word of mouth.
  • Above 0 is good, above 50 is excellent, and above 70 is world-class.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good NPS score?

Any score above 0 means you have more promoters than detractors. Above 50 is considered excellent and above 70 is world-class, though healthy benchmarks vary by industry.

How is NPS calculated?

Subtract the percentage of detractors (0–6) from the percentage of promoters (9–10). Passives (7–8) count toward the total but not the score itself.
